Hello all,
My doc and I are trying to decide on the best breakthrough med for me. I was taking Norco and then we tried Percocet (which didn't seem to give me as much relief as norco). So, I see him next Tuesday and I'm wondering if I should ask to try vicoprofe? I've always taken ibuprofen for headaches, aches and pains, etc, and have never taken Tylenol. So, I'm wondering if I don't just respond better to ibuprofen? Anyway, I am just curious and wondering if any of you have any feedback or personal experiences you would like to share? Thanks for reading.
Best,

Thanks Joanne,
Did you find that you were able to take less with the vicoprofen as opposed to norco? I hope that's the case for me. Thanks for the quick response.

I thought it was pretty good. I got more tired/groggy with it than I did with 7.5/500's.
If you take too much, it will really start to do number on your stomach. I had some pretty elevated liver test results, which came down after I'd been off it for a couple weeks. They said the VP could have been the culprit.

What would you consider as "taking too much?"
I have always been quite tolerant of ibuprofen. For instance, I would take 4 200mg at a time for a headache. Did ibuprofen give you trouble before taking the vicoprofen? Just curious.
Thanks,

hello all
I WOULD LIKE TO GIVE MY TWO CENTS ABOUT VICOPROFEN
PERSONALY I LOVE IT IT IS A GREAT PAIN KILLER I KNOW THAT IBUPROFEN WORKS A LOT BETTER THAN TYLENOL FOR ME ANYWAY.AND VP DOESNT UPSET MY STOMAC AS MUCH AS TABS DO I JUST WISH THAT THEY WOULD START MAKING 10MG VICOPROFEN,THAT IS THE ONLY THING THAT KEEPS ME FROM GETTING IT I WOULD RATHER HAVE LORTAB 10 JUST BECAUSE THERE IS MORE HYDROCODONE IN IT,AND ALSO ANOTHER BAD THING ABOUT VP IT IS A LOT MORE EXPENSIVE THAN LORTAB.

Why do you all think that Vicoprofen is more expensive then Hydrocodone of the same strength, I doubt it's because Ibprofen cost more the tylenol does so why then the extra costs ? TheMedMan

I believe Vicoprofen is more expensive then hydrocodone/tylenol due to Vicoprofen having no generic available. If I am not mistaken it will be a few more years before a GENERIC for Vicoprofen hits the market.

generic available. Name brand in my area at Wal-mart is $135 for 90 (200mg-7.5mg). I had to pay $98 for generic (abbott labs) which personally I thought were weak.

there are 2 generic's the first one is teva(I think released in 2003) and on april 16,2004 andrx released there version. I have no idea why it is so expensive, I like the teva generic because for whatever reason it doesnt make me as sleepy

Good thing my insurance will pay for it. Does anyone else have an opinion about vicoprofen brand vs generic?
Thanks,

QTY: 120 is $156.00
That's about 50 (or so) more than 120 Lortab 10/500's.
I use them every other consult to take a break from the APAP.
I also have no doubts that a 7.5/200 vicoprophen is just as potent (pill for pill) as Lortab.

I have taken the brand and just like the andrx generic it makes me sleepy, but they still work great for pain relief and I meant to say that I take less of vicoprofen than norco

I think the vicoprofen works very well. I was very surprised when I first took it on how effective it was. I also take 4 200mg tabs of ibu. at a time for headaches so with taking that much and then starting the vicoprofen it still worked well. I think I paid $7 for 80 tabs, thank god my insurance covered it. Hope it works well for you. Have a great day!

Let's see. I had knee surgery in mid December, and was taking 5-8 VP tabs per day for about 3-4 weeks following that. I would get heartburn/reflux. About the second week of Jan I was having regular stomach pain. I went to the doctor and was tested for bacterial infection and none was found. They did find elevated LFT's at that point, so I stopped the VP for about 2-3 weeks and was retested and my elevated LFT was down to acceptable levels. I never went back to Vicoprofen. I could have had a viral thing, but I suspect that prolonged usage of ibuprofen was causing the heartburn. NSAIDs are a known cause of stomache lining irritation. I'm not a doctor, but I think there was some cause and effect there.
It's pretty good stuff overall, so maybe it was just me.

Vicoprofen has worked great for me. But expensive. SWMG offers it. It can be backed up with tylenol, if needed. You can also take an antacid if worried about the stoach lining issue.
