We are planning our vacation, and plan to spend a day shopping in Mexico. I have considered also buying meds while there. In doing searches on the subject, I see that you must in many cases have both a US prescription as well as one from a Mexican physician. The Mexican presc. seems easy enough to obtain, but what if you do not currently have a presc. from US? Will your last bottle suffice?
Any experiences/advice would be appreciated.

When I went to Mexico a couple months ago I just went into a pharmacy and bought what I needed (no prescriptions). Put the blue footballs in my pill bottle and crossed the border. I guess I was taking a chance.

you only need a prescription from mexico, most of the time unless its a ridiculous amount. But u would be better off tucking it away and not claiming it in the first place.

I am thinking less than the 90-day amount that I keep reading about in various places, and we will be walking across, which I understand is less risky also.
However, if I do take the time to get a script from a Mexican doctor and just declare it (for my own piece of mind), that works too, right?

That is where we are planning to go - spend a few days in Laredo and take a day to shop in Neuvo Laredo (sp?).

Just keep in mind that it's not 90 days supply, it's 50 units per med - and just because you can walk through customs with them, doesn't mean that when you drive away, you won't get searched at the customs checkpoint about 20 miles out of town. Dogs are there, but that doesn't mean they won't decide they "don't like how you LOOK" and search further than the dogs' sniffing around your car.
Texas police WILL arrest you for possession if they catch you (even with a Mexican scrip), and even though the feds ALLOW you to import the 50 units of meds for personal use across the border - which makes NO sense to me. Seems federal law would overrule state law, but in Texas, apparently not. Seems Texas has their own rules...and it also seems like the best place for a pain patient to live would be right in Laredo - quick to get home, and cross the border any time you want!

Hide 'em in your shoe or something. Don't declare them.
Buy a Mexican blanket or something to show the border
police. Just my advice. I've done it a bunch o times at
the TJ border. I am pretty sure dogs don't sniff for pills.

Park on the US side and walk across. You will see pharmacies in town. Most items can be bought without a scrip. But pay the Doc a few bucks and they will write a scrip for what you want. They will give you a copy of the scrip if you want to declare at customs. It's up to you.
