I was in a car accident a few years ago. I had neck pain, headaches, neck and arms went numb. After a few months of Motrin 800mg and Vicodin ES, and still having a lot of pain, I went for an MRI. Turned out I had a bad herniated disk. I finally made the decision to have surgery - did it 2 months ago. It has helped, but i still have a lot of pain. This is probably due to permanent nerve damage. Read the boards here about the different OPs. You can see what they offer and make an informed decision. I'm new here, too, but found the DB site to be very helpful.

Not sure if I can help, but I thought that codeine was legal in Canada? Acetaminophen is just Tylenol. First of all, really complain to your doctor everyday. Be a pain in his neck. If that doesn't work tell him to fax you all your medical records and you will pick up them up. You can always change Drs and get the meds that way or do a phone consultation through a US OP. BEWARE. Fees range, OR you could order the med overseas as a last resort. I'd give my Doc H***. You have a legitimate injury. Write down your thoughts before going to the Doc take a spouse or relative with you if you feel unconforable or intimidated. If this doesn't work, BECAUSE THIS IS YOUR BEST BET. LEGALLY AND MONETARILY. Your doctor needs to do his/her job. Tell him/her you can't sleep or function and are in chronic pain!
Demand help! You deserve it!

Yes, there are some very low dose(8mg codeine,15mg caffeine,300mg tylenol)OTC products available legally in Canada. However, with a neck injury you would have to take quite a lot(too much acetaminophen!!)for any real pain relief. I also had (and continue to have pain) from a neck injury caused by a car accident. I was prescribed tylenol #3 and flexeril for several months, however I had to do intense physio for several months as well. If I had refused or discontinued the physio, the Dr. I had at the time would have also probably told me to "just take an Advil". I still have on and off severe neck discomfort and migraines but I am fortunate in the fact that I now have a Dr. willing to prescibe 30 Demerol per month. Now the demerol in pill form is not that great, you have to take quite a few for pain relief but I'm afraid to complain about it to my Dr. as I would probably be taken off the dem's and put on something competely useless(for me)like toradol. It's very hard to find a good Dr. in Canada that is willing to prescribe any kind of narcotic pain med, especially triple script meds. Thank goodness I found this board!!! I was ordering Darvon compound products that really helped from AccessMeds, but who knows when or if A.M. will re-open. I have also found that fiorinol from HealthyLifeMeds to be very helpful. It's expensive when converted to Canadian dollars and HLM's packaging leaves a lot to be desired, but I've ordered from them several times and have always recieved my orders in anywhere from 17 to 30 days without a hitch. Hope that helps some. Please feel free to pm me anytime if you need any help!! The folks here at DB have been a great help to me.
