Topic says it all.I get horrible mood swings on Hydro and I am looking to supplement some vitamins and/or herbs to help.I take Nac,Milk Thistle, Calcium, Vit B 6 and Vit B 12 allready. I know that kava kava is supposed to help with moods as well as Saint Johns Wort. Any other suggestions? I do have mild anxiety.. 15 years ago I used to have panic attacks regularily but didn't know what they were( felt like I was in an earthquake) I don't have those anymore but I constantly feel like I left the iron, coffee maker, curling iron etc etc on. I worry about things more then the "normal"person
I should mention I have felt like this( anxiety) before the Hydro and its not as a result of it. I haven't been to a shrink in 6 years, kind of hoping herbs and all the tools I learned in therapy will help. The mood swings are new with Hydro however. Before Hydro I was simply best if kept off boards off..hehe ,all the time.

Don't feel bad, it's taken hydro, muscle relaxers, and benzos at night for me not to feel gawd-awful pain and ******-off all the time, and even then....

Do not take st johns wort if you take any other antidepressants. You should be taking a good multivitamin and a high b complex supplement. Also DLPA will help, another thing "Relacore" is really good.

L-Tyrosine, in conjunction with Vitamin B6 for absorption is supposed to help with your mood. A good multi-vitamin/mineral supplement in addition is also a good idea.
For precautionary measures, check with your doctor and/or pharmacist for any contraindications with the medications that you're already taking.
I started taking L-Tyrosine/B6 (when I was not on any other medications), and I felt so much better it was unbelievable. And no side effects like nausea and lethargy that comes from anti-depressants.
I think that your doctor can assess whether an anti-depressant is necessary (because many times, it is), so that's the best route. HTH.

It really sounds like you have a chemical imbalance. I would suggest getting a blood workup. It could be a number of possibilities. A friend had the same problem and it turned out he was diabetic. At least get a glucose tolerence test to rule that out. Good Luck to you.

Some people take omega 3 fatty acids to improve mild depression. It's found in salmon, but there is so much bad press on farmed salmon now, many are taking the supplements in a pill form.
If you're physically able, walking and aerobic activity can also help improve mood to. Even 20 minutes a day is of great value.
The only other thought I had, was your expectations when you take hydro. When I obtain relief of pain I feel better, when my pain is not controlled I sometimes get crankier. Pain is what affects my mood most. I take NSAIDS, advil or naprosyn, with hydro and I think that helps.
I also believe keeping our bodies as healthy as possible makes pain more managable. Good vitamins, nutrients, activity help with that.
Just my opinion. Good luck.

I will agree 100% with this. I noticed a *huge* mood improvement after taking L-Tyrosine, and B-6.
