First I want to say thank you to so many people who were kind to me when I was despairing a few weeks ago. I am still despairing but I haven't given up looking for things that help my pain, and I knew there was something to the quality of light and oxygen I took in that related to my well-being.
More Clearly Put---it is ironic that certain conditions make us house bound; plus a lot of us live where it is bitterly cold, but when house-bound and unable to get sunshine and fresh air, I know that I, among many others feel doubly unhealthy.
I have a story to tell about my recent pain clinic visit; which did not result in any RX but did validate my pain; yet she pushed me out the door to my PCP, who was shoving me mightily toward the pain dr.
I am starting to feel like that tattered alley cat who used to be fluffy in the musical CATS who warbles "Memories"
I can remember when I was wanted in the room; now I am devoutly wished out of the building; I am a legitimate lifelong CPer who will not benefit from surgery or epidurals.
I want to tell the whole story but I think I need to do it on another board. (not related to OPs, but almost as wonderful as this one; is that possible?) Any suggestions? I think every pain clinic story I read helps me to empathize with the teller, and bolsters my sense of balance.
....it's not just meeeeeee.....
Anyway!
This story has been floating around for a couple of weeks, and I am here to tell you that in my forty years of off and on pain---sunlight has always helped. I am not talking about baby oil and foil reflectors now---many of us need to wear protective clothing and hats.
But there is something about sunlight absorbed that has always worked for me. I offer this story to you.
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/3938824/
Actually, as you read it, it is more slanted toward Vit D supplements; there was another story recently that touted actual sunlight as a remedy.

Prettyday,
I can relate to youre situation. My PCP and Ortho recommend a pain specialist who in turn sends me packing. I cannot explain the guilt and shame that comes with being in cronic pain. I have done ecerything the experts (Doctors) asked me to do. Surgery, PT, Cortisine Injections, Synvisc Injections (very nasty). All to no avail. I am a ship without a sail. I recently changed PCP due to all this mess. He conncurred my conition. Was very sympathetic, but again reffered me to a Pain Specialist. So here I go again. I really hate this establishment. All of this pleasure for over 1200.00 a month (my insurance premium). Hang in thier. I am grateful for these boards and the support they provide.
Best Regards,
Hoop

Wow Hoop thats alot for insurance, are you self employed or just have a non-group policy? I wouldn't be able to afford insurance at that price. Seems like you would be better off paying out of pocket for your medical expenses!

Hoop, I am so sorry to hear that you are going thru this too. The amount of perserverance that one needs to keep trying to get better--That must come from Above. I hope you find some things delightful to look at today, a rush of love from somewhere, and at least two little laughs and one big one. Keep picking that lock. One of us has to make it.

I get out alot and all that. But the sciatic nerve deal is auful. I have found that a trip to the Tanning Beds once per week works wonders for me. Not only does the heat ease the pain on a partiularly bad day -- but my mood is really lifed. Of course, if a dermatologist read this, I'd get my tanned derrier raked over the coals -- Oh well, according to the news lately, there's something bad for us in everythng we do, whether it is food or exercise.
Anyway, found the "mood" thing most intereting as it lasts for several days. I'm here where we are experiencing some extremely low temps and more snow than we usually get.
I onfess. Last week, I went twice. There is the fact that I look better but, as said earlier, the mood thing is really super. KrazyDat

So you can get this effect from the tanning bed......I had asked that under another post about this same subject, I have one in my basement, I think I am going to fire it up tomorrow and give this light theory a whirl......Thanks Catcrazy

Thanks for the story
I think there's a lot of documentation out there that supports exactly what you say: sunlight has a measurable positive impact.
