I just found this on a thread from Dec. 7th, 2003. Can you believe the Federal Government would say this:
Quote:
The federal government estimates 46 million Americans older than 12, or nearly one in five, have abused prescription drugs at least once. But nobody knows how many people are feeding addictions anonymously through Internet pharmacies.
Taken from:
Thanks to Online Pharmacies, Addiction Can Be Just a Click Away
BY J. SCOTT ORR
c.2003 Newhouse News Service
OK, I'm not intelligent enough to turn this into a political debate, but I can Best if kept off the board sure count. If 1 out of 5 Americans has abused prescription drugs, that means;
1 in 5 President Elects, Senators, and Governors(Politicians)
1 in 5 Law Enforcement Officer (State, Federal, and Local)
1 in 5 Priests, Clergymen, and Nuns
1 in 5 Pre-School/Kindergarden Teachers (Educators)
1 in 5 Grandmothers/Grandfathers
1 in 5 Of our US Troops in Iraq and Afghanistan
Just about everyone we look up to and respect (politicians excluded) has abused perscription drugs. Have they been labeled drug seekers? Or do pharm. techs look at them like the anti-Christ when they go to Walgreens to fill a perscription after a dental appointment? I don't think so. So, for the Feds to make that statement makes me wonder if perscription drugs should be thought of moreso as the rule, versus the exception. If all these people we know and love are abusing perscription drugs, why do they make such a big deal about being able to buy them without looking a doctor in the eyes and lining his pockets. Either the Feds don't know how to count or they have an agenda. Sorry this was so long, but that article Pi$$ed me off and I needed to vent. Thanks guys (and girls).

See my other post about Scott Orr. He is the ultimate hypocrite, out to make a name for himself at our expense. And most likely an addict himself. Where are all the samples he's ordering going except his medicine cabinet?

FWIW, I don't think the "1-in-5" realistically translates into an even distribution of the entire population so it's not exactly precise to say that 1 in 5 politicians have done it, 1 in 5 doctors, 1 in 5 McDonalds workers, grandparents, mormons, amish etc. More than likely certain groups, for whatever reason, tend to use/abuse certain substances than others. For instance, in some Christian groups consuming any alcohol is a major no-no almost regardless of the situation, while for others it's part of the sacrament & also an acceptable part of life if not taken to extremes. Or Islam, where for the most part alcohol is very much against the 'rules'. Sorry if it sounds like nit-picking, I just couldn't help but point that out. As to whether or not the Feds have an agenda, I think that answer is absolutely obvious. Of course they have an agenda, that's their job. I hope this doesn't come across as rude, sometimes simple chit-chat on the net can come across as far more intense than was intended..
2:15 AM... sleep sure would be welcome at this point, because 6:50 AM is gonna be here reeeeeeal soon and i'm WIDE awake.

I agree 110% LordHawHaw! You just clarified my point. They have no right to make a blanket statement regarding drug abuse as they did, because we all know it's neither realistic or accurate. You made some very good examples. By the way, I don't take many things personal nowadays, life is too short. Ya'll have a great day.

Phew.. glad we agree! I thought I was agreeing with you, but I posted that right before bed, while fighting a migraine, so when I got up I thought "uh-oh.. I hope that came out right & didn't sound confrontational." You have a great day too.
