I saw a brief story on the local news last night saying that Customs has a new list of drugs that will be seized at the border or if ordered over the internet and imported. They are primarily date-rape related medicines and an acne medicine (I think). Does anyone know about this new list and if it includes any pain medicines or minor benzos?

If a drug is manufactured in the United States or territories and exported, it cannot be re-imported into the US, except under very unusal circumstances, like an epidemic. The Dingell (export/import) amendment covers this. So customes has the ability to seize a lot more than they do. They cannot keep up with current rules and regulations, let alone additional ones.

but it is accutane they are going to look out for & this is a potentially very nasty drug so someone on it should be monitored properly

Definitely, Accutane can be very nasty...if a pregnant woman takes it there is a 100% chance of relatively serious birth defects to include missing hands, etc. When my friend was on it she was required to be on birth control pills and receive a monthly pregnancy test as well as keep in touch with some group at Boston University that was monitoring it.

Hi, Mayhem~
This is a "rant" I posted in another thread, but decided it was the wrong place for it. It was brought on by a reference to a TechTV show regarding online pharmaceutical buying.
While there are hazards at all times when taking medications, it really peeves me that the US has, once again, set themselves up as the end-all and be-all of what's best in the world. Gee, how *do* those poor Europeans, Africans, MiddleEasterns, Asians, Australians and NewZealanders survive without the US's FDA?
It is all-too-often forgotten that the US was not the leader in medical research, teaching, and health-care delivery up until perhaps the past 40 years. It is perhaps unknown to USers that European pharmaceutical companies don't all suck the consumer completely dry with exorbitant prices, nor do they necessarily produce inferior/dangerous medications. The FDA, while it has its uses, is also a tool of those who make mighty big profits, and it is once again attempting to make miserable those who cannot afford other medications, ongoing health care (doctors' fees are incredibly high), or those who just are sick and tired of being suckered by the system. I'm really quite glad my career in the medical field is finished after 30 years, because it was getting embarrassing to be part of it.
Okay. My rant is over and I'll go back to lurk mode.

Accutane can also cause very bad, permanent side effects for someone taking it, pregnant or not. I agree that Accutane should be monitored people think because it is an acne med it is not dangerous.
Also as someone pointed out, it will (not can, not might but WILL) cause serious birth defects. It's not a drug to be taken without a Drs supervision.

All this is interesting. BUT. Most of us order "items" that are illegal without a prescription anyway. And many of those meds have bad side effects. So none of us should be hypocritical about any med.

I've taken accutane, and I agree that anyone taking it needs to be monitored. Before the doc wrote my prescription, I was given a book (not pamphlet), about all of the nasty potential side effects (including such pleasantries as organ and tissue damage, severe depression, cerebral edema whem combined with certain medications...). It did, however, work wonders for my face; after a decade of cystic acne, I haven't had a single "zit" since May!!!

Customs seem to be taking just about anything they want, and are finding LAME excuses for detaining parcels. Look at how bad the FDA has been targeting Canada.
Did you know they can detain orders with out "proper med information" controlled or not.
If the med is not labeled with a US brand name, even if a US based pharmacutical firm made it.(controlled substance or not)
If the med is not made in a known FDA approved lab, this reason was listed in my last seiz letter.
If med is made in other country FDA can say, we have to keep this because we cannot ensure quality, and it is a health risk to you.
If Meds are not in original package, this was also listed in my last seiz letter.
what it boils down to is if customs wants it, customs will keep it.
