Since I just responded to the benzo post, here are my favorite and most effective muscle relaxers:
1. Skelaxin (nice and loose -- able to maintain coherence and focus. Mixes well with the Xanax and is my pain and anxiety cocktail of choice for work.)
2. Soma (fantastic with Hydro -- they really do seem to boost each other. I take it on weekend nights when there's nothing to do but watch DVD's)
3. Flexiril -- (great for sleep and fibro restlessness but you must take it a few hours before bed or you'll have a horrible hangover the next morning and want to sleep all day.)
One I'd like to try: Zanaflex (no experience).

WOW!
Skelaxin makes me sooo sick! I wish I could have givin' you all the scritps I have had from Drs.
Same thing with Flexiril, seems like docs always want to give me the two and I CAN NOT take them.
Glad it works well for you
Take care my friend

Pam...yup! Sweetest dog in the world. Next to yours of course.
Benzos cover a whole class of sedatives and are to be used with utmost care and by taking frequent holidays from them. Take care!

Pamx, I'm curious as to how skelaxin & flexeril make you sick. Is it nausea? dizziness? or what? Any mouth sores by chance?

Not Pamx but I can say that Flexeril makes me insanely tired, I can't take that. What's strange is I've gotten a paradoxical reaction to it and got really ancy. From that point on, I just won't take it. Skelaxin just plain doesn't work for me.
My favorites are Soma and Robaxin. Soma is my best friend currently as right now I am on a holiday
Yes Soma and hydro to tend to compliment each other don't they. I have Fibromyalgia as well, anything to stop that pestering feeling is welcomed by me

Norgesic is the best by far as per my Fiance, these are a muscle relaxer and pain killer all rolled into one, they really mess you up. He has a high tolerance, so He took 2 and WOW, it knoecked him on is---. Nothing ever does that to him, My fiance takes at night- You will be shocked
4percocets
4fiouricet
2ambien
4noregesic
Sometimes he will add a xanax if he cannot sleep, and he never gets sick and can still function, I would pass out!
He broke his back and neck 5years ago so he has been on meds for a long time so they really do not even work anymore for him....

I personally like Flexeril...it makes me sleepy and knocks out the headaches I get from a pinched occipital nerve in my neck.

Soma is the best for me, but Zanaflex is awesome as a sleep aid. I did not notice that Zanaflex did anything other than help me sleep though.

Soma---my doc told me a little trick. take it on an empty stomach, then eat, kicks you in the butt, instantly! The thing I like about Soma is that after the initial relaxation of the muscles, it doesn't make me sleepy. I have Fibro so have a lot of muscle tension...Soma really helps when I overdo and have hot, muscle spasms in my neck and all across my back(OuCH).
I have tried Zanaflex, and it's not bad, works good at night as it makes you sleepy(or at least it did me)

Right now, I take Diazepam, once in a while, (20mgs or more before bedtime) which helps to calm my anxiety, which in turn allows me to fall asleep! I also have Xanax, and Clonazepam, I find that Clonazepam (in my case) is more of a sleeping aid than an anxiety aid. As for Xanax, I have not really had the chance to try it, to see what it is best for????Anxiety, Panic attacks??
Currently, although this is not a muscle relaxant, I am taking Clonidine (0.1mgs x2 tablets at bedtime)(Catapres, as known in the US) I take it for many reasons, it is a blood pressure medication. But, for sleeping, it is the ***best*** sleeping med I have ever had, even though that is not what it is intended for.
I live in Canada, and we get Methocarbonal OTC, it is a muscle relaxant, and works well, when taken infrequently, as not to build up a tolerance for it.
I hope some of this helps???

Omigosh...the long lost Quaalude!! Somewhere out there exists a stash that someone has put back for release into the wild someday. Something like the Lost Ark or Holy Grail. Oh how I miss them!!

They were wonderful, or, shall we say, effective. Too effective. . ."too much potential for abuse." We all knew when Quaaludes were in town -- Everybody was crashing their cars.

yeah pam x, please be carefull cos sounds like yr off for some experimentation! i've been a real fool with the benzos in the past, and believe me you SUFFER!!!or even die thru withdrawal thru fittin, like withdrawin from alcohol too quick if yer physically addicted that is.valium is the benzo of choice when withdrawin slowly (which you must always do), as they decrease in yer system over a long time, weeks even.other b's like temazipam are out of yr system in hours.Sorry if this is the wrong forum for this post, but many people just aren't aware of how dangerous these so-called "minor tranquilizers" are.

Zanaflex is definitely the best. Quite strong and effective, can make one very weak. I only take it at bedtime. Soma is much easier to handle during the day.
Good Luck,
Mr. D.

Ha, ha, ha, that just made me laugh. I am embarassed to admit that I have a very FUZZY memory of "experimenting" with those back in college (ooh boy, I'm really dating myself with that one )
I took an excellent class back then called "Drugs and Behavior." A PDR was, more or less, a required textbook. It was actually a very tough class. The professor dressed up on Halloween in white tights and sweatshirt with big pillows stuffed in with a big "Rorer 714" emblazoned across it. The extra credit question was "Guess what I am?" like anybody wouldn't know the answer to that back then . . .

Beetle...problem back then was finding real ones. Some of the counterfeit Lemmons had some very debilitating and dangerous feeling ingredients in them, but whatever it was, it wasn't methaqualone.

LOL
Yea, the long losted methaqualone, took it a few times, but they were called "Mandrax", found myself bumping into walls and the slurred speech that came along with it. It's too bad, I've heard that they are not manufactured anywhere, But I think someone did mention (a while back) they are still manufactured and prescribed in Sweden, and they go by a different brand, (can't remember what they call there). But I'm not 100% sure. It's too bad, cuz they were the best when you needed sleep and relaxation. It's the same story with all the older sleep meds like Placidyl, Seconal, Nembutal, Valmid, Doriden. When the benzos and Ambien came on the scene, most of the older sleeping meds weren't profitable to make anymore, so slowly they were phased-out. I had a script for Chloral Hydrate and couldn't a pharmacy that had it or could special-order it for me. Say bye-bye, cuz Ambien in town and it's here to stay, and get ready to pay alot money just so we can relax our muscles and get a(something most of us take granted for) good night's sleep.
