Hangover pain relief

Besides abstinence, what is the best way to get rid of the horrible side effects of alcohol abuse?

I'd be careful with tylenol, and ibuprophen....both metabolized via liver & so is alcohol..stick with aspirin and plenty of H20. Any narcotic is going to be combined (unless you've got OC or contugesic)

LOTS AND LOTS OF WATER!!!!

Part of the reason you feel so bad is because your body is very dehydrated. The more hydrated you can get - the better. Also, try to eat some crackers for stomach upset. Ginger (in natural herb form) works great for an upset stomach...you could also get Ginger Ale, but make sure it is a name brand, as the "generic" ginger ale does not usually have Ginger in it.

Like it was said before me, take caution when reaching for Tylenol or Ibu - it can make you feel actually worse (stomach-wise).

Good luck!!

Go to the local drugstore or health food store and buy a bottle of N-Acetyl-Cysteine, they will come in like 300mg or 600mg capsules. I'd also suggest Vitamin C capsules (250mg or 500mg) as it helps the NAC. Take a NAC and a Vitamin C capsule with a big glass of water before you start drinking and a couple more of each capsule with a big glass of water when you stop drinking. Anyone using Tylenol/APAP-based products should do the same thing. If you end up in the ER because you damaged your liver from too much tylenol, they will give you NAC. It is the amino acid that the liver uses to manufacture the chemicals it needs to detoxify substances like ethanol. There is a good article on it on www.ceri.com

As previously stated NAC and vitamin C will work for detoxification. As a recovering alcoholic I can tell you that WATER is the main key. If you have a headache don't take pain relievers, they will only worsen you condition. Also, a natural herbal liver restoration aide is milkthistle. You can get this at any natural food store as well as target/wal-mart type stores. But, my advise would go to an anonymous self help group such as AA, only if you are ready. Good luck!
