Pain+Painmeds=drug seeker "Not"
      #101015 - 09/18/03 12:11 PM

What is the matter with all of us in chronic pain? Can't you just acept that you are always going to be in pain?

I say NO WAY. I find my self seeking meds because my doctor while gives me meds he never gives me enough. So I am playing the call the nurse game (hoping not to Best if kept off the board her off) I then feel guilty and think that i am loosing control of my meds. wrong it is not that, I am becoming tolerant. yuk.

Too bad. If i want pain relief so that i can work play enjoy my kids and enjoy my s/o. i have to jump through the hoops to get what I need.

what about OP's I wish I could but can't. not enough money. besides with insurance i get 60 vicoprofen for $8.00. as opposed to $180.00 an mark up of 200%.

so the moral I learn to live with the risk of being labled a 'drug seeker'. if I'm labled a whiner or what ever because that is what we are all doing. the way that lable is applied is up to the beholder. If I get the relief I need then i'll live with what ever it takes.

I am sitting here reading posts and I think of everyone and there pain. I am thinking of other meds I take. Does anyone take Previcid for stomach reflux. I have been taking that for well over three years. WOW.

is it amayzing my MD has no problems giving it to me. I ran out the other day and did not pick it up for two days. I had return of symptoms then all I thought about getting it back. I only take that med for comfort and qulity of life. Just like I take vicodin for pain. it is truley upsetting that a MD will give that med with no 2nd thought. But when it comes to opiates they become tight and hard to work with.

they only differance from one med to another is there history. but both improve my life so that I can enjoy day to day things....

can anyone see the conection that I am trying to draw???? this is where to point to show that legislation and legislators are truley based on there 'feelings' and oppinoun and not totally on facts!!

anybody with the same or differant ideas......

Just a quick comment, I found a great PM specialist in my own backyard who takes the time to listen to me, test me, and prescribe appropriate medicines for my blown disks and fibromyalgia. However, I am becoming tolerant to my pain medication, and I am afraid to ask for something stronger because I don't want to lose my doc and be labeled a drug seeker, thus cutting me off from pain management. I have an appt this week, and I have to bring it up, because the temptation to DD is there just to manage my pain. Heaven knows I have records! I do not want to do anything illegal with OP's, and IOP's to me are just too risky. I hope that we all get the care we need, but given the current state of our government I feel that is not possible, and that really makes me angry with the so called "War on Drugs". More like a war on US citizens, but that is my personal opinion. Just my 2 cents.

Regards,
Fred

P.S. I am very thankful for finding this board, you all have helped so much.

I just took my last dose of vicoprofen and am prepared for W/D. I am thinking of how I will suffer. it is amazing I don't care about the diareah, the headach or craving. the thought going through my mind is d**** I won't be able to play with my kids as much as I want to(due to pain). SOOO i will hang in there until monday when I can again request a refill.

My life held hostage to PAIN

What a shame that people like yourself, with a healthy view of that ridiculous War on Drugs and in real pain, are so afraid of everything: using an IOP or asking for stronger pills. If we all complained more often and louder, and if we used what is available overseas, maybe things would(slowly) change. By the way: using IOPs isn't illegal yet. Only receiving SOME of the meds is, but even that usually fits into a vast "gray" area. Sorry, I don't want to sound too harsh, but being from Europe and appreciating so much the bravery of my American friends in the past, I am surprised to see so much of cowardice here. People are even afraid to sign for packages! This is a normal practice all over the world for Registered mail! It doesn't matter what your narrow-minded mailman thinks, really. Heads up!

Generally PM docs understand and expect that you will become tolerant.

Don't ask him for something stronger, just tell him what you are taking doesn't seem to be working as well and what do you need to do.

He might switch you to a long acting with something for breakthrough.

or he will suggest that you take a "vacation" from your med's so they will work again afterwards. Be careful or you will end up on vacation.

I broke down.
I called my md for a refill. explained I was in laot of pain and used it quicker than before. somewhat agravated with me but did refill with one refill at the store.

I went 48 hours no W/D other than the run's but the pain level was terrable.

I feel like a bad person for this . When he ok'd the refill I almost started to cry knowing the releif was coming.

I wish I could just get on a level med program!!!!!

Yeah, well my PM doc must not beleive in breakthrough meds. I was on 15mgs methadone 4 times a day. I called in with kidney stone pain and he increased it to 100mgs a day. From 60mgs to 100mgs is a big difference, and all I really needed was something like percoset to take in between doses. Now he has me on Oxycontin 20mgs 2 times aday!! That isn't enough with the tolerance I've built up. I had to stop taking that much meth because it made me feel "high" and people were noticing. I don't understand why he won't listen to me about breakthru. Im going to my PCP and either throw myself at her mercy. I just got a bad burn (from falling asleep with a heating pad on my back for 8 hours) and am in terrible pain from that. I also have stones plus fibro and spondylosis. I can't take anymore. Im starting to have anxiety attacks with all this pain. I don't know if she can do anything, but maybe she can talk to my PM for me or I can ask her to take over. I pretty much know what meds work for me and what dose. I wish I could just tell her, but Im also afraid of being a drug seeker. But Im sorry going from 100mgs of methadone to 40mgs a day of oxycontin is stupid. No breakthru or anything!!

I wish you the best.
My dad had kidney stones. His urologist gives him enough meds to help him pass them at home. His back hurts really bad when they are in the kidney and as they move thru the ureter the pain is horrendous.
