Depression Meds
      #103348 - 09/27/03 08:42 PM

I have used all the SSRIs and most everything else. Nothing seems to help more than just a little. Atleast I hold down a job now, (I work alone or else I couldn't), and thats about as good as it gets. Does anybody know something that actually relieves depression? I have been from doctor to doctor for about 3 years now. Is this barely functioning thing the best I can hope for.

Lucabrasi~
Going on three years now is too long to be still searching for an answer to your depression. I don't know what you've tried. But as far SSRI's go, I can tell you that I've had GREAT results from a combo of ssri's. They are EFFEXOR XR in combo with WELLBUTRIN. I've tried each individually and they are nowhere near as good on their own.
I hope you find something soon and I hope my success with these two meds can help you somehow.
Best of luck!!!!!!!

Try the newsgroup alt.support.depression.medication
There is lots of info there regarding other types of depression meds - like tricyclics, MAOI inhibitors, etc.
If you are not familiar with usenet, you can access it through groups.google.com

Agree with your assessment of Effexor XR and Wellbutrin SR in combo, SonicMan. I find myself breaking into spontaneous laughter in the grocery store... long way from Anhedonia. One minor correction, neither are SSRI's. Effexor is an SNRI and also a mild dopamine re-uptake inhibitor. Wellbutrin doesn't seem to fall into any current category. From reading it's prescribing info (the datasheet for the doctor) they don't seem to think it's a re-uptake inhibitor, but has some other dopaminergic and noradrenergic mechanisms. I only make this point, because I think SSRI's are nearly worthless, especially compared to these two bombers.
