I have had a similar problem this summer from all the swimming I've been doing. My doctor told me to mix half and half alcohol and vinegar and put a few drops in your ear after each time in the water. The formula helps to kill bacteria and dry the ear out, preventing the moist climate that the germs like to thrive in. Also, try not to dig in your ear to itch it. I really sympathize with you. I just got over a bad bout of swimmers ear about three weeks ago, and I would wake up in the middle of the night wanting to bang my head against the wall from the pain. And that was while I was on Norco. My children's pediatrician says that swimmers ear can be as painful as kidney stones. Nasty business. Anyway, I hope this helps you a bit. Good luck.
