Yeah, the easiest way is probably going to be a patchwork of scripts from here 'n' there. I told my first pain doc the entire truth and it did NOT help my situation... this actually prompted him to retract everything we had been talking about pertaining to sustained-release maintenance of my incurable condition. As soon as he became aware of my prior (and still current, thanks to my honesty) treatments, he sent me home with neurontin and a TENS unit. All follow-ups were fruitless (though I do get a bit of relief with the TENS). Honesty is not always the best policy with these guys and gals, unfortunately. In paradise we could tell the entire truth and still be treated like patients. I almost wonder if intractable pain shouldn't be a prerequisite to specialize in pain mgmt. (kidding, sorta).
Just do your best, and realize beforehand that they will nitpick every little discrepancy in your statements... and also ESPECIALLY note that they will write down almost everything you say and place it in your records.... so be aware of that if you don't want it in your records. I've been to 3 pain docs... the first one I just mentioned, the second required MULTIPLE dangerous nerve blocks and epidurals prior to any opioid therapy, WITHOUT fleuroscopic guidance ("I know what I'm doing")not gonna happen.. and the third wants to use methadone and only methadone. No way in hell I'm going on methadone before oxycontin or MSContin... once you go methadone, you may very well never get relief from another opioid again. So, here I am! Just be as honest as you can and see what happens, pain docs come in all configurations of competency and compassion. Good luck!
