I also would like to know of treatment alternative
      10/04/04 09:05 PM

Most people simply do not have the money, knowledge, and/or resources to try every concievable alternative to pain management.

Since I am now on full time disability, i consider my 'job' is to cope with ever increasing back pain and the depression that is increasing due to my frustration that when I do find a combination of pain meds that work, I build a tolerance in a few months and back to square one.

My doctor is hasseling me about trying this expenivse machine that is supposed to stretch the back and re-align herniated disks or something like that. I would try this machine that takes about 26 treatments and cost about $3000.00. This is not covered by my insurance. While I consider getting better my job , as with any job, you recieve an income. Unfortuantely this income or precisely disability payments do not cover even a fration of the alternative treatments that come out eash week let alone minimal living expenses.

Some of these alternative treatments that I see on info commercials late at night are rediculas. Ease your worst pain by using 'blue stuff' creame'. Yea right, but you get a money back promise. I bet that refund check would be sent ASAP.

I also have lost the nucleus or cushion material in L-4 and L-5 vertebraes. I have had the spinal injections that I thought was supposed to restore this fluild for a brief time before it 'leaks' out. I am thanful that at the time, I had good health insurance and the cost was virtually nothing for the $2000 shots. All I got was a sore back.

I would consider back surgury if more than one doctor had not warned me against it lasting and people that have had it say it can magnify your problems. Look at Limbaugh.

I have also tried accupunture (more needles that did nothing but hurt) and saw a chiropractor who's main benefit I got was that he showed me that I had lost the nucleus.

After I got my first MRI, I realized that using a chiropractor was like stoppingon an ingrown toenail.

Every one is different who lives in chronic pain and some things that are not narcotic do work. Even meditation works for some probably.

But the only thing I have found are the pain pills and the double edged sword.
