Kimbell-
The morphine in the form you are taking is continuously released into your system throughout the day, which helps cut down on the sedation and also develops (after a few days) a steady level of medication in your system without the peaks and valleys that oral hydrocodone causes--even at 4 a day.

Therefore, it makes perfect sense that you receive better pain relief without added sedation. And it is COMMON to need frequent dose adjustments with morphine as a body quickly builds tolerance to it. Perhaps at a higher does of the Avinza, you would need less hydro. Don't be afraid to report your pain to the doctor and ask questions about dosages, etc. 1660 is very high and usually not needed unless the patient has severe pain (usually cancer pain) or is that tolerant to narcotics.

This is nearly the same combo I was on for cancer pain many years back...MSContin (480mgs per day--3 100's and 3 60's) and Percocet. It worked very well for me.
