My mom gets percocet for headaches (not even migraines - just bad tension headaches) and also fioricet.... She is lucky to have a very kind and brave doctor. He prescribes her 20 percocet a month I think (might be 22) - and 30 fioricet....
She takes the fioricet, but the funny thing is, she *hates* the way that oxycodone makes her feel, she says it makes her feel out of control and dizzy (she doesn't take it often, maybe 5-10 percocets over the course of the whole month, only when she has the bad headaches) - So her tolerance is very low and it very well may make her dizzy / nauseous etc... The strange thing is though, her doctor always gives her a prescription for percocet when she goes in every month to do check-up's with the headaches, determine if there is something specific causing them, if they are indeed tension headaches or something worse, etc.... She never finishes a prescription since she doesn't like the way she feels on them, so she always has like 10 bottles in her med cabinet with about 5 percocets each in them.
She doesn't let me take them because she knows I already take Lortab for my lower back pain and sciatica in my legs..... I have been over to her house before, and had a really bad back-pain moment, eating supper or something, and been like 'Is there *anything* strong for pain in your house I could take (knowing full and well about the percocets because I have seen them) - but I don't ask for them and wouldn't since it makes her think bad things about me. She always pulls out her (also prescribed) 800mg Ibuprofen and says 'Take one of these, they work better than the oxy and all that stuff anyway - those will just make you feel weird' LOL
Oh well, to each their own. I never push the matter - although it is frustrating to know the perc's are there and not being used, and growing old and expired all this time, yet she won't offer one to me, even knowing that I am educated and knowledgeable about opiates (I share with her my opioid knowledge all the time, it is nice to be able to be open with a family member about it) -
Anyway, just a story that I think is kinda funny.... My question is, where are these doctors?!?! (Like the one she has) - ?!?! Anyone know? I sure haven't ever found one that nice. He doesn't over-prescribe or anything, if anything he under-prescribes (not even enough for one a day) but my opioid-disliking mother doesn't even use those.
Funny, but alot of people really don't like to have to take opioids. I mean, I don't exactly LIKE *having* to take them, I mean being chained to them, just to lead my quality of life that I am used to - but I can't imagine having them, and having pain, and still not wanting to use them (like my mom) - But like I said, to each their own.
You would be surprised how many people have bottles of Tylenol#4 and #3, Lortab, Vicodin, and even Percocet just sitting half-full in their medicine cabinets. There are ALOT of people out there that do not like the feeling of them. I myself, have been on Norco daily for 3 years, so I don't get any euphoria from my prescribed doseages like I did the first month or two, but I still must admit I enjoy the feeeling, even though I am taking them for pain.
Kinda like killing the pain, and wrapping my central nervous system in a warm blankie, all at once.... I just can't see dis-liking that feeling enough to not take your own prescription! But it happens!!
