My theory on the dramatic price increases on all meds over the past couple of years is that its nothing more than a supply/demand issue and OPs/IOPs are charging what the market will bear.
Each year there's an increase in the portion of the population that have home PCs, internet access & the comfort level to use them. There's also generally a growing awareness (thanks to spam, the media, & some interesting search engine results) among the mainstream (read: not already desperately searching) that various meds are readily available for sale on the net. If one types the keywords "pharmacy, internet" into a search engine looking for drugstore.com or cvs.com one is likely to pull up links to many non-traditional (our OPs) sites as well.
There's a link available here somewhere to the old Drugbuyers.com that was on EZ Board just a couple of years ago - the increase in the # of members from then to now is absolutely staggering. Many of these new members & especially non-members who don't have access to the font of knowledge at DB don't know/care that the prices they're paying at some places is exhorbitant - they're just so thrilled that they can buy valium, codeine, etc. at all without a prescription. As OP/IOP sales have increased annually with these new customers, the owners have realized that even if they increase prices fivefold the demand will still be there especially for the best known controlled substances like Valium, Xanax, codeine, etc.
I'm not a morning person so I hope my theory makes sense the way I wrote it - again, its JMO.
