Pretty Day,
I hope you don't mind, but I'm going to do exactly what you suggested for that anonymous writer should do. I am a writer, and that was just a brilliant idea to chronicle a young woman's experience with chronic pain. I've been in severe pain for 8 months, but it's been going on longer at a lesser degree. I've been bounced from doctor to doctor for a diagnosis. The diagnosis I have came both from multiple doctors and my own research. And througout this whole period my self-confidence has been shattered many times. My stomach is in knots, my blood pressure skyrocketing each time I am confronted going to a new doctor and them looking down at me everytime. I have been suffering from pelvic floor dysfunction, Interstistial Cystitis and endometriosis. And I don't know about you, but docotrs around here don't think that female pain is serious..."here take some advil or a darvocet when it's really bad," is about as good as it gets. I'd like them to try and sit through a three hour graduate course, clean the house, and try to be amorouus with you fiancee while everything below the belt is spasming and inflamed. Women in my situation are forced to seek relief somewhere..like OP's and I hate it. But I refuse to let my life be ruined by pain. And it's not like taking pills is the only way I handle my condition. I can't tell you how much I spend each month for physical therapy, massage, and chriropractic care to help keep my symptoms under control.
Anyway, I really liked your idea PrettyDay and I'm going to submit a query to Jane to do this article to rebutt the one they wrote, or at least offer the other side. And if they don't publish it, I'll find someone that will. Good luck to everyone...we need to change the way people think about chronic pain!!!
