When I was doing my grad and post-grad work (too long ago for most to remember) meds were very reasonable. I quit that to work for the CDCs and soon after drug prices went through the roof. Nothing really changed, chemical prices didn't go up enough to justify 2000% profit so the companies started blaming the FDA and the time it takes to bring a drug to market. In Europe the same drugs are brought to market at prices so much lower than here that it's almost silly to even order from a pharmaceutical firm here, but, fed law makes it illegal. What changed? Congress made sure that the drug co lobbyists got what they wanted, a monopoly on all drugs manufactured and used in the US. Guess who got screwed. Congressmen/women get their meds free even after they leave Congress. The original Continental Congress are spinning in their graves over this one, but, they are spinning over so much more we don't even feel it anymore. I love the US, but things must change and meds would be easy. Just MHO.
