I understand feeling like a mooch for sure. I am starting to get really depressed, I feel worthless, a do-nothing, no-good, mooch. My gf keeps telling me to get a job and it is all I can do to make it through the day. The social services suck here (in So. Calif). They make it so hard to figure anything out, esp. when I'm in so much pain I can't concentrate for sh!t. Back in Massachusetts (and a few years back before welfare reform), it was so easy. They had it all under one roof. You could get AFDC for a disability to tide you over until you could possibly get SSI/SSDI. Here, I don't know where to go. All I get is food stamps, and they say I am not eligible for anything else. I can't get unemployment b/c I wasn't working enough--I was in school. I am seriously in debt. Can't pay rent; can't afford food. GF is pissed about money all the time. She is at the end of her patience for sure. Credit cards go from Peter to Paul, but mostly to OPS and other pharmacies for pain meds. I don't know what to do. The pain is so bad, but everyone is sick of hearing about it. I had surgery so why aren't I better we all wonder. I said to my gf, why don't you care that I am in pain anymore, and she said well that was before your surgery. haha. I guess I could perhaps work part-time, but that does not pay the bills here in this paradise. and really i don't know how I would keep down a part time job even, how would I go to work on the days I didn't have my pain meds because they ran out or I couldn't afford them? mmmmm...I have/had dreams aspirations, I was about to get my ph.d. when I had my accident. If I could just get my meds paid for, and sufficient pain relief (I need about 2 oxy 80's per/day, but can't find a doctor to rx), I think I could get on with my life. But I spend all my time figuring out how I can shuffle money around to pay for some pain relief (much like another poster stated).
Sorry off topic. I just needed to vent.
Maybe a lawyer could help me get ssi? My dad always said (and absolutely no disrespect to the people who recieve it) that that was one club you did not want to join.
