If you have a good doctor, the easiest way to get on disability is via a mental disorder such as depression. It's really quite assinine, but they people with missing limbs and the like a harder time for some reason. The system is NOT particularly fair as they will a severe diabetic through hell to get on disability while letting the one with major depression slip on in no questions asked. While I think both are dieseaseas deserving of benefits if the need arises, I do not think that Social Security is particularly fair or giving the applicants an even playing field when applying.
My doctor was the one who TOLD me to go on disability. He completely screwed me up to get unemployment so I was more or less forced to go this route. I'm ok with it, as long as I get benefits sooner or later, but I don't particularly want to wait 2 or 3 years to finally see an ALJ. I just can't afford that right now. I have enough so I can survive about 6 months waiting for a decision. I think though with the documentation I have, I will likely get it. I have been seeing the same therapist on and off since 1995 and she has my prior history of depression well documented, not too mention my PCP is my Court trying to push it through.
