As others have posted, even with the heightened security at airports they are not really looking for prescription meds in personal use quantities. Especially on domestic flights, where customs is not an issue.
I fly international at least once a month, and I always have some quantity of xanax, ambien and codeisan, and sometimes ritalin, none of it prescribed, in my toilet kit, along with the multivitamins and aspirin and Claritin etc. It's either in the blisterpack it came in or tossed in with the aspirin or the Claritin. I have never once had security even look twice at any of this.
The only time I got nervous was flying into Denpasaar airport in Bali where there is a big sign at customs that says "Death To Drug Smugglers" or something like that. They are talking schedule I narcotics, not a few xanax, but I still held my breath.
