Some doctors forget they are not God and want their patients to be unknowing and uninformed. They get all p.o'ed when we actually may be correct in helping to diagnose or treat ourselves.
Drives me nutz to listen to my mother in law after she has had a doctor visit.
Me: "What did the doctor say?"
Her: "Oh, he talked medical talk, I don't know....I have to take these pills"
Me: "What are they for? What's the name of them?"
Her: "I have no idea, I just take them 3x a day"
She actually thought when he told her to have a bone scan done that they were going to cut a piece of her bone out! So, she didn't schedule the procedure.
I have since started going to her appointments with her and have the doctor speak laymans terms to her and make her ask questions.
I'm sorry...it's just a peeve of mine.
My last doctor actually yelled at me when I mentioned some thing to him about treatments I had read about. He told me I read too much, too.
Needless to say, he wasn't my doctor after that.
He was also the one that if I had to go get an injection for my migraine, he would come in the room talking OH SO LOUD...(now, would you make that shot a DOUBLE??)
I agree about presenting yourself in a neat manner at the doctors office. I do think you get a bit more respect.Even when I feel like Best if kept off the board and hurt...I may not wear makeup, but at least I put on 1/2 way decent clothes and brush my hair, even if I didn't want to. My doctor and I are good friends and he knows anyway if I don't feel good.
Even on the days I'm not 100% when I take littlest kidlet for her allergy injection, he will ask what's wrong.
I notice on this forum (both free and VIP) most everyone is very educated on their condition and meds. I would want any one of you to be with me if I was ever in need of a 'friend' at the hospital. Thanks to everyone for your information you share!!
