I did read all sections of the website including a section in which it was mentioned that the chatroom users cheering Brandon on and calling him a wussy (I changed the first letter)in an attempt to have him ingest even more pills (user Smoke in particular)could not legally be held liable for contributing to his death.
Interestingly (to me) I read the abovementioned section after reading through the logs/transcript of the chat session. While I was reading the logs I was reminded of the movie "The Accused" with Jodie Foster based on the true story of a woman who was gang-raped in front of a small crowd of cheering onlookers, egging the rapists on. The Massachusettes DA assigned to the case was able to obtain convictions of "criminal solicitation" for the men who cheered and egged on the rapists, the thrust of her argument being that the rape would not have proceeded as far as it did had it not been for those cheering onlookers.
I have little experience in the field of law and am not trying to suggest that the same law that allowed convictions against the onlookers in the gang-rape case could be applied to the chat room users who cheered Brandon on. I do believe, however, that it is a travesty of justice for Brandon's cheering witnesses to face no penalty harsher than a possible guilty conscience.
