Do you think Davis and Waxman would have ANY trouble getting ANY drug they wanted at ANY time? Nope. They don't give a HOOT about Ryan Haight. Here's what they give a hoot about: VOTES! It's politics as usual. More laws passed every year.
Here's something for everyone to consider: There are TENS OF THOUSANDS of government officials whose continued employment depends upon NO permanent solution EVER being found for the problems WE pay them to fix. Think about that one, folks.
And regarding Ryan Haight: The esteemed author, Robert Anton Wilson, once said: "Hydrogen is not the most abundant substance in the universe. Stupidity is." We have FAR too many morons on this planet. When that number is diminished by one, I am not sad.
Several years ago, in my state, some kids found a bottle of mercury. These were seniors in high school. They dipped cigarettes in the mercury and smoked them in a moronic attempt to get high. They died. Do I want people like this breeding? Nope. Did the collective intelligence level of the planet rise a bit upon these idiots' demise? Yup. Harsh, but true.
The answer to your first question is a resounding HAYULL NO, just as it is for the docs that won't prescribe proper pain meds even when they have an MRI up on the viewer and are telling you you have about 10,000 things wrong with your back! If that [censored] orthopedic surgeon that I had last year had the kind of pain that I had, he would be on a morphine drip in a NY minute! I have to disagree with your rather Darwinian view of foolish behavior on the part of our youth, though. I was a child of the seventies, and believe you me, we did some REALLY stupid stuff in our misspent youth...and I still turned out okay ( well, sorta! LOL). Unfortunately for Ryan Haight, his foolish mistake cost him his life, as well as many of my fallen comrades...lost one of my very best friends at the age of 22 because he ate a POISON mushroom by accident in Hawaii. I do agree however, that the blame lies squarely on the shoulders of Ryan Haight, not the OP that sold him the vics. Not to mention, I seriously doubt that the script said to take 10 or 20 or however many he may have taken at one time to cause the OD.
