Do not know if I can agree with Lolo here in entirety, although I do appreciate her positive attitude. For example, many people who have a history of panic attacks and severe anxiety would rather be dead than live like that. Epileptics need their med not to seizure. Hypertense elderly folks need meds not to have a heart attack. Thyroid people need their meds. Anemics need iron. What about choleserol roblems for older folks? Then there is the world of anti-depressants... talk about deception and wrong use of medication!
We all have different body chemistries and many of us need some kind of balancing in order to deal with this abomination of a polluted society. So, I would be very careful in generalizing. Med treatment is specific to what works and who is to say what is right... maybe a person just needs more B vitamins, but the fact is there that many of our chemistries are severly compromised by pollution and anxiety that is directly the result of how we live in this weird world. Who knows what is polluted or poisoned... even meds like vioxx are now considered dangerous.
And I do not agree at all that "benzo's make you feel stupid". The worst drug I know of that makes you feel stupid is alcohol and that is legal (and have fun wd from that sucker). My experience with benzo's (and it is different for all) is that they calm me and make me very clear in my thinking and writing. Yes, they are addictive in that the wd's are terrible... but I never got high off of them... I just never had panic attacks or tremendous anxiety or insomnia while using them. Frankly, I think benzos are a great med and agree with what I once read that the only bad side effect is withdrawal (and that can be handled if done correctly)!
