I am glad to hear everyone talking about a taper schedule with bupe(temesix, suboxone, subutex). And while it is a mu opiate receptor antagonist it does act as an aganoist(painkiller) on two othe opiate receptors. On a mg for mg basis it is 5 (five) time stronger than morphine IM. The Naloxine(NARCAN) in Suboxobe is present ONLY to prevent injection - it is not orally active in the qty contained in the sublingal pills. It is however absorbed fairly well sublingulaly (the doseage charts say 2mg IM = 3mg sublingulkaly. So if you were taking 243 10mg hydro per day that is = 30mg morphine. For paiunkilling activity the sublingal dose would be 9mg/day.
But all the mu opiate receptor antagonists (Bupe, NUBAIN, NARCAN) will PRECIPITATE (not block) withdrawl. You just notice it less because your loaded on the bupe.
And as a painkiller it is only effective for 3-5 days. It then saturates teh receptors and is ineffective. Which makes it ideal for breakthrough pain with low abuse potiential - if, after 3 days, it stops easing pain and doesn't intoxicate you anymore why take it? and the mu opiate receptor(morphine, herion, opiate, hydro, oxy) withdrawl is over in 3-5 days
