Well, Steve, they can be! During a laparoscopy, it was determined that I have pelvic congestion syndrome, which is a condition of having varicose veins all over my uterus and right (and only) ovary (I was born without the left). Conesquently, the valves in my veins don't work properly "down there," and at times, such as during visits from Aunt Flo and sex, the blood pools in the veins, causing them to distend.... and it HURTS REALLY, REALLY BADLY. The pain can be INCAPACITATING, and leaves me curled up in the fetal position on the bed, rocking back and forth, and crying. Thankfully, I've had my uterine nerve cut to help lessen the pain and my GYN periodically, albeit grudgingly, prescribes #10 Lortab 7.5's a month (which isn't enough, but better than nothing).

Endometriosis is quite common, and can cause the same symptoms. So yes, Aunt Flo can justifiably be a reason for meds, even if some doctors are flat-out unsympathetic.

I don't know if "I coudl handle" was a typo or what...but put your balls in a vice, or pass a kidney stone (oh, the agony!) and see if you could handle that!
