i have always had knee problems, more like joint problems in general, mostly shoulders and knees. inherited this from my dad. i haven't had this checked out yet by my doctor because it doesn't bother me all the time. every so often my knee or shoulder somehow becomes "dislocated", like it comes out. really freaky to look at, always scares bf out of the room when it happens. but after i get it back in it only bothers me for the next few days and only certain activities. my dad has, or rather had, the same problem and he was seeing some quack for years who insisted that pt would fix it but it kept becoming worse. finally he changed doctors and found out that he had a torn meniscus. he had to have knee surgery and i believe they removed his plica. i'll have to ask. anyway, he has been doing much better since the operation.
i don't think x-rays would be very helpful. an mri might be in order.
