What you said reminded me of what my retiring dentist told me once when he knew I was going to have to find a new dentist. "Some dentists think you should have a Cadillac Mouth; but some of us realize that people are perfectly happy with a good ole dependable chevy."
Sure enough the first dentist I tried after mine retired gave me a "plan" that sounds much like the one you got. I was appauled. So I moved on to another one who is very content to keep my "chevy" in good condition without major overhauls.
