I wanted to add a few things here.

1) You do have the right to remain silent and not answer any questions.
Little known fact, you actually have the right to hand over your DL and Insurance and not say a word, other than to ask for an attorney. This is the best route that my lawyer recomended.(too late of course)
You don't even have to leave your vehicle if you are not under arrest in most states.

2) If you answer questions be brief.
Such as:
Cop "how much have you had to drink"
You "None"
These officers know what they are doing and they are good at 'chatting you up', getting info from you in a benign, seemingly informal conversation. (I learned the hard way).

3) May US OP prescriptions may not hold up in court. Again, this is what I am going through right now...proving the script was legit by a now defnct pharmacy. I did not have te script bottle with me.

I was friendly and perfectly honest and cooperative and am now facing a felony possession charge for 1.5 XANAX and a few hydro. The hydro came from an OP. The Xanax was actually sent to me by accident.

My only hope now is that I have had previous scripts for Xanax and have gotten a printout from the pharmacy proving such. However, my case has been ongoing since may and i have not been offered any deal or charge reduction.
