Oxycodone is indeed the active ingredient in Percocet (along with acetominophen). I really don't understand why it's perceived as such a powerful drug because, for me anyway, it's no more effective or potent than hydrocodone, it's chemical "first cousin." In fact, I think hydrocodone is a little *more* effective. But I suppose everyone responds differently, so it may be a really potent drug for some people.
As for taking your benzo and hydrocodone together, I wouldn't hesitate to do so (and, in fact, have done so many times, on the advice of my doctor), as long as I don't have to drive or do anything requiring alertness. If you've been taking either or both meds for any length of time you probably have sufficient tolerance to use both, in medically appropriate doses, without any trouble. I am not a doctor, of course, and your best guidance on this would be from your doctor, but it is not uncommon to have them prescribed for concommitant use. In my case, the doctor says that sometimes the best way to manage a severe migraine is (in his words) "to get good and sedated" with my Lortab and Valium. I must emphasize, though, you must NOT drive or engage in any hazardous activity while on these meds.
