Re: Should the uninsured lay down and die?!

As for why OBGYN insurance is so high, talk to my friend who had the hemostat clamps sewn up inside of her for close to 3 months before they discovered what was causing her so much pain. And FYI, because of this "mistake" she wasn't able to carry another child full term and had 3 tubular pregnancies before she was finally forced to go through a hysterectomy at the ripe old age of 27.

Yes, doctors, nurses, medics, all make mistakes. It is reality. Some mistakes result in death or serious injury. Folks, these are HUMAN BEINGS (as opposed to deities) and we all know what it means to be human. The expectation that ALL doctors will be right 100% of the time is just silly. These people are under enormous pressure, which is only added by the fact that they now have to see an enormous patient load to make up for the high costs of practicing. There are a million reasons why a doctor/nurse can make a mistake, but I would bet 99.9% of them are honest mistakes. Even with that, we still have the best medical care in the world - top to bottom.

The question, therefore, is what is a reasonable solution for a situation where a healthcare professional makes an honest or dishonest mistake? We all know that there are 100 hungry plaintiff's attorneys for every one doctor. It's not difficult to figure out why it's such a lucrative practice area for lawyers. Why, look at John Edwards. Worth $75 million from successfully pursuing malpractice claims. Not bad. I'd consider being an ambulance chaser too.

For every one of you who can't figure out that the math just doesn't pan out, you will learn it the hard way. The doctors that you naively presume will always be there - won't be. Your town will suddenly have a very serious shortage of health providers. Your insurance will triple. You're doctor will be afraid to tell you what they really think. It's already happening all around you. It will get to a crisis point, and then the liberals will demand that the government bail them out. A new class of entitlements will be born...It's simply not that difficult to figure out.

Doctors - many of them professed lifelong liberals/Democrats - are running a series of commercials in my town at the moment, practically begging our voters not to re-elect one of our prominet Democrat senators, because she's done nothing for the last decade to even attempt to curb the litigation abuses. It's stunning, really. Can you imagine paying $100,000 per year, just to practice? Nevermind the office space, staff, expensive equipment. How many OB patients would you have to treat just to pay that bill?

BTW, how much is it worth to you every time the doctor discovers that tumor in time? Or orders that extra test that prevents a death? Or performs CPR and saves a life? Think they get a break from the bloodsucking leeches (attorneys)? No way. There's a saying in the legal profession: You can sue a ham sandwich if you want. This means that the threshold for lawsuits is practically non-existant. Anybody can sue any one any time. If we don't get realistic, we're screwed.

WAKE UP AMERICA!
