I must not be very smart since I can not figure out what the word DB is censoring.
I have worked as a Dental Assistant for 20 years and the "sore" concerns me. When a tooth abcesses (dies) the infection, pus and gasses created by the dead soft tissue inside the tooth causes pressure at the root tip resulting in the horrible pain. That infection tries to escape/expand to somewhere and sometimes it is able to make its way through the bone to the outside gum in the form of a pimple or blister. The pimple "pops" allowing the infection to drain, relieving the pressure, making the abcess either not painful or much easier to bear. The infection from the dead tissue has a Ph level that will destroy healthy bone if left untreated. I think your crowns could wait until the first of the year if you are careful not to chew hard foods but an abcess should be treated. Did they want to give you antibiotics to keep the infection under control until you can have root canal treatment? That is better than doing nothing for several months.
You are getting a great deal with the Dental School and those student Dentists must do everything to a standard of perfection you are not assured in private practice.
Best of luck and let me know if I can help.
