all narcotics (opiates) supress the cough reflex to some extent...there's no reason you can't substitute hydro for the perudetas if that's cheaper....are you coughing up sputum? If your cough is a wet one, producing sputum, try to spend part of the day NOT supressing it..only one way for that stuff to get out, you guessed it. Also, have you had any diagnositic tests, like a simple chest xray? a Chronic cough is NOT normal & NOT to be ignored. Good luck
