I always take the meds out of the pharmacy bottle and put them in something like an aspirin bottle, I then swith other pills into the other bottle so that it does not look suspicious. However it does seem sorta silly that we are all full grown adults yet we are all searching for great hiding spots for meds that help our pain. That alone says a lot about how people with chronic pain are thought of by members of society. If we have pills in bottles all around then there is something to be ashamed of, but would anyone say that about a diabetic if their insulin is in plain view in the fridge? No I do not think so! It is so bad!!!
Then we all have to deal with those theifs around us that somehow think stealing someones pain medicine does no harm. That has to be one of the lowest tricks in the book. Searching through your step moms drawers in search of medicine that she cleary has hidden on account of your visit! Pathetic.
Sometimes the best thing to do is just keep in on your person at all times. If that means having a trusted friend hold the majority of your meds at their house until your guests leave and just take out enought to get you though their visit, (or even a trusted neighbor that you could go to each day to take your meds). I don't know I would be horrified at the thought of someone (especially my step son) going through my personal stuff to get his grimy little hands on my meds.
The best idea yet is to keep the pills hidden (but not really hidden) in the same place as the last time he found it. Then, find some laxatives that are in pill forma nd do not have the name of them printed on top of the pills. Then swap the real meds into the laxative bottle and hide the laxative bottle in a really good place. I have tried putting mine in an envelope like someone on this board already suggested, but I would then tape it all up and tape in to the inside of a really out of the way spot (maybe in the garage if it is not too hot) or to the ceiling of a closet.
Oh wait, it just came to me, you should just get a lock that needs a key for your bedroom door. If your husband questions this just say you have been having horrible nightmares lately, that someone is breaking into your room and hurting you and that this has been disrupting your sleep so a lock would most definately relieve that fear for you. There, done. He's none the wiser and should be happy to make you feel safer, and your step son can not get in without a key. There are also motion detectors you could get and put in your room when you are not in there so when he enters without permission the alarm sounds and everyone else in the house will come running in to find him breaking into your room.
There that should do it! Heck I think I will follow my own advice, I am pretty good if I do say so myself. HA HA HA HA HA
