when I go on any trips, I take only the amount I need with me, and put them in a ziploc baggie and I always put the baggie in a Personal Item (Tampoon Box or Monistat 7 box) as mentioned above...
I just started to travel by air again. Had not been on a plane since before Sept. 11th.
The first day I set off all of the alarms and got the full search at the security gate. Had to go sit in a chair with shoes off. Used the wand etc.
Plus they spotted something in my computer case. I have a bag in there with a bunch of stuff including my prescriptions and keys.
It was the keys. I had this great butane lighter that was hot enough to produce a blue flame so it would light in the wind. Well, the rule is no refillable lighters.
They asked me nicely if I wanted to return it to my car, but since I had taken a Limo, all I could do was tell the man it was his to keep. They went right past my prescriptions.
When I was flying home, I was having a smoke break outside and there was a TSA Official also having a smoke. I told him about the incident and he said sorry it had to happen.
But I asked him about prescriptions. I take a lot of meds and some are controlled. I asked him if I could combine all of my drugs into one bottle except for the controlled substances.
He strongly advised against it. Think of this. They are looking for something like my keys and they pull out a plastic baggie full of meds. He said that would probably lead to a few questions. He said that he knew it was a pain (no pun intended) but better to have a bottle with your name on it.
One more thing, don't think you can get away with the baggie in the checked bag. He asked for my e-ticket and showed me a place were a code is placed (no further details or I will have to kill you) which means that you have one a prize!!
A full security check. They pull your checked bag and you go into a room and they search EVERYTHING. This is all done at random.
The guy was really nice to take the time to explain this to me over his smoke break. All the screeners are polite.
Remember, Yes Sir, No Sir, No Problem. (I realize there are women screeners, but you get the idea.) The only time they seem to get terse is if you slow up the line by not being ready, like not having your laptop out of the bag before you put the bag through the scanner.
BTW, After our conversation about the security search I said, "but you can't profile?" He just looked down and shook his head slowly.
