This happened a little while ago for me. Things eventually got better.

I was merely relating my experiences to wds regarding going ct to show that it isn't *always* a three to four day experience of having the flu as some feel it is.

That is what seems to be a little more typical (3 to 4 days of bad and then weeks of the rest) but, as shown in my case, it isn't always the same for everyone.

I do feel as stated that the Ultram (Ultracet taking no more than 125 ms a day and typically half or less than that)did prolong the wds but, I wouldn't say that they were the sole reason for my lengthy ordeal.

For me, the Insomnia and fatigue lasted the longest. I would say that once they set in that they took better than 8 weeks to go completely away.

As a follow up, I passed another Kidney stone a couple of days ago. I did it without the aide of opiates. I have found a couple of ways to work around using them. You should have seen the look on the ER docs face when he heard me say "NO OPIATES" through my clenched teeth.

I also wanted to say here, since I don't post too often anymore a big ***F**** ***YOU***!!!! to the dirtbags that have been frequenting ERs FAKING (until they are catscanned or IVP die tested) KIDNEY STONES FOR PAIN MEDS!!!

The last four stones I passed I was lucky enough to have been able to do so at the same hospital that my Urologyst takes a once a week rotation and through him they have my complete history and I am treated very well.

This time, I had to go to a different ER and was unable to reach my doc before going in. I was treated like I had the plague and was the dirties liar of all time until they did the IVP dye and saw my stone.

I was given toradol (which doesn't work well but isn't an opiate) and since I had waited long enough before going to the ER it only took an hour and half (at the ER, total time was 8 1/2 hrs apprx) before I passed it.

If you have ever passed a stone, you know that once it is gone, it is like having the weight of the world lifted off of your junk. (daisy for girls?)

Once that feeling happened and I had given the 7mm stone to the nurse to send to my Doc she said "we can give you some Demerol now if you want it honey" to which I said a big NOO THANKS to.

Then it hit me, while I did say right off as best I could "NO OPIATES", I started remembering that they weren't offering me any. After the dye test, they asked how my pain was and if I wanted anything else for it but didn't offer anything other than Toradol. I assumed that they were honoring my request but, since the same nurse just offered me a major opiate after I had said no thanks to it before when I was in agony, it made me wonder.

The next time she came by I asked her about it. I straight up said "was there a reason that you offered me the Demorol now and not when I was passing my stone? I am just curious".

She told me that it took UNTIL AFTER I PASSED MY STONE to get my records and a call back from my doctor and that ***** "it is hospital policy NOT to prescibe ANY opiates for pain in Kidney Stone cases until after an IVP dye or a catscan showing the stone or distention has been done or that they can establish the patient".

I said "thats tough, kidney stones are total hellll agony and as a frequent kidneystoner if I needed the opiate meds I would want them as I walked in the door".

She told me that the "LATEST TREND" amoung "recreational drug users as well as hardened addicts" is to fake Kidney Stone pain and that it has happened so often now that they no longer trust ANY new patients until they can establish the stone.

She asked me why I refused the "heavy meds" and I flat out told her about my history of Kidney disease and my 31 Stones and how, until a couple of months ago I was taking opiates and they were no longer working for me so I decided to try some of the more experimental treatments.

She talked with me about it for awhile and then said some prolific advice to me that I will keep in my noodle forever.

She told me this, "don't say anything about meds at all when you go into an ER, saying no opiates is like saying "I AM AN ADDICT" to us. You are better off asking them what they are giving you for pain and if they try to give you an opiate medication to tell them you are allergic to opiates, that way there is no reason for them to suspect you of anything".

I told her how I wouldn't wan't to lie to anyone for any reason and she said "thats admirable but, that isn't how hospitals work" and left.

So again, to the recreational drug user, thanks, thanks for making it difficult for those who truly need medicine to deal with legitimate pain issues. Thanks for being so selfish that you refuse to even consider that there will be people suffering for your stupidity.

I was lucky, I didn't want the meds and would have been peaved if they had given them to me, the next person with a Kidney Stone may not be of the same mindset as I am.
