Funny - I've definitely heard that before, wasn't it on the EIB network??
In case you're wondering, just about everyone here loves freedom, actual freedom, not some picture of it piped into our heads by Fox news.
I've known you to defend the right many times, but given where you are right now (db), it baffles me no end.
I've also known relatively harmless remarks to be taken in a hostile way as if to attack your leader, when in fact, a lot of times, a remark was simply made as a complaint against whoever is in charge. People have always done that, and it's non-partisan in nature for most. But you seem to always take it in a partisan way, though, and it always erupt in a bitter complaint, wondering why the heck we have the gumption, the audacity, to complain about, let's face it, the most universally hated person in the world, at the moment, and his cabinet. I'll be honest, he certainly is hated by me. In a free society I can say that, albeit to much grumbling. In a society which is losing freedom, you get vigilantes who carry guns and think of ways to shut you up if the government won't. In the case of TV and radio, we have that - it's called the FCC.
It is the freedoms we are hoping to enjoy here, which you are an active part of, that some members of our CURRENT (and I am NOT referring to your arch nemesis Clinton) govt. want to rip out of our hands. They want to take away choices, and I base that remark on what has happened so far: OP's being closed down, the IDIOTIC drug war, drug databases for Rx drugs so as to monitor who is taking what and why (how, pray tell is that freedom?), and the rescheduling of a popular pain killer.
I just don't get it at all. And I swear to you I am not an idiot. I have heard the popular explanations, but I don't buy into that Best if kept off the board. I want to delve deeper, I want to KNOW why it is that to one group of very strict religious leaders, another group's freedoms are seen as a threat to the freedom they perceive to be the right one.
In other words, why all the bans on drugs of choice for some, but none on alcohol and tobacco? And why is this whole country being turned into a kid-friendly, kid-safe, colorful, unimaginative, straight-edge disney/comcast/fcc media-corporate conglomerate where you get thrown in the slammer for smoking a doobie, thrown in the slammer for saying (it rhymes with duck) in earshot of a kid (I know this to have happened in Cali), or just about any other consensual crime? When did everything here become dead, sterile, straightedge, wholesome and 'happy' here, but drugs are out. Because the Best if kept off the board rich people don't want to explain to their precious little kids why the world is a terrible place with hunger, war, oppression, especially when all of that can be seen in our slums where drugs are popular.
What we, as Amurikins want, is to do 85mph in our H2, flatten skunks on the f'way, burn oil, all on our way to the mall, where we can buy a plasma tv while talking on a cell-phone, until it's time to go home and watch American Idols. Drugs don't fit in there, god no, but alcohol and tobacco do, so we smoke and drink and EAT and DIE of that, while so many drugs, which are healthier, remain illegal, based on outdated laws and puritan values which are completely incongruous with today's world. And because these drugs aren't WHITE, we declare war on them, even though our government can't resist the drug trade from time to time if it needs to finance something, say and arms trade.
So now we have oppression in the real world, and 130 million fat americans in white suburban homes passed out, reeking of gin or scotch, going tsk tsk at the drug use by those "drains on our pleasant society". And thinking how can we keep our pristeen kids safe from those evils? Maybe by buying them stuff, sending them to therapists and giving them ritalin? And let's keep the little Gods (which is really the way america sees and treats kids) happy, fed, and full of Disney cheer. And we have 220 channels of cable TV, yes, that is living.
So this is freedom? In the media maybe? I do NOT need to even give you examples of the loss of freedom in the media, do I??? Not that Ann Coulter stands to be banned for any of the filth she spews forth. Shutting HER up would be a violation of her First Amendment rights?
As for the war in Iraq? Who brought that up here on this board? Why? It's taking away from this thread. Don't use it to beat us up with because some of us have a different idea of freedom than the right have. I don't get why the right are always yelling shut up, or implying it, and yacking on about free speech.
Jesus H Best if kept off the board Christ
One thing I'll give you now, our tax burden, on average is less. Although I (childless) am paying more than ever (nice and fair eh?).
And of course I see our schools and VA hospitals are thriving....oh wait, maybe not. This is a very simplistic way of putting it, but an economist with a quarter of a brain can tell you that in an economy of greed with low taxes, someone is getting screwed. He probably isn't white, or rich though.
Reactionaries were never good with numbers, that's a historic fact. Which is not to say any of our radicals were either. I put it very black and white here, but I am guessing it gets the message across.
To me personally, if you're a politician, you're a liar anyway - it's in your nature, and you don't really care. That's Bush, that's Kerry, and that's Clinton. All of the above would do anything to ban OP's - ALL.
If you've read all of this, then you do not need Ritalin. If you got turned off before, well...good luck finishing a book.
