Re: VISA and Mastercard laying the smackdown

This is very similar to the way that the U.S Gov. has tried to crack-down on online casino's, and I do not doubt at all that it WILL effect U.S online pharmacies..... The U.S Gov always has a Plan B. Infact they probably have plans C, D, E, F, and G in line as well........ With Online Casino's - of course gambling is not legal in many states, and most of the online-gambling/Casino sites are located offshore to avoid the interference of the U.S Gov....... But what the Gov has done (this is old news really, this happened like 3-4 years ago) - is basically forced the major CC processors, Visa, Mastercard, AmEx - to stop allowing customers to purchase 'casino credits' with their credit cards. And no, it did not stop there. After this happened - many of the casino's opened up multiple accounts with online payment processors like PayPal, MyPaySystems, MoneyBookers, etc, etc..... Online/Third-Party payment systems..... Well the Gov went even further and also forced many of these Online Payment systems to stop allowing transactions to/from the Online Casino's.

In some cases it was the choice of the payment processor themselves (I mean, no-one (the gov) forced them to stop the payments) - I think (not sure on this one), that this was the case with PayPal. I think they stopped allowing transactions from Online Casino's on their own. They are pretty tight/conservative with which type of transactions they allow - and if your read their Terms of Service, they state they will not allow transactions from gambling, porno, or online pharmacy sites. This is already part of PayPal's Terms. They did this themselves. (Probably due to the large number of charge-backs, bad transactions, fraud, etc - that is sure to happen with these types of websites) - So the same thing is basically happening here with Online Pharmacies. Yes, many of them will register under 'non-pharmacy sounding names, to try to trick the payment processors into thinking they are a different type of business, and many will use offshore payment processors, etc - but this WILL still effect transactions to online pharmacies - it did make a major dent in the usage of Casino's online - because they are constantly being watched by the payment processors and they all eventually get caught up with. (For using false registration names, etc) -

It will not STOP online pharmacies, for sure - as someone mentioned there is always COD, Money Order, etc - but it will surely cause alot of problems, and probably keep some people from using them at all - whether they start offering other payment options or not because some people simply do not want to use alternate payment methods. I think the OP thing is going to get VERY complex in the near future, and be treated sort of like online casino's - , from the Gov's point of view - if you can't get 'em with one regulation, get 'em with another one....

I don't think OP's or IOP's will go away anytime in the very-near (1-2 years) future, but they will definitely become much harder to use, more regulated, and some will of course fold completely...... Things are gonna get a lot tighter soon folks. I am sort of glad I am in the middle of recovering from my hydro dependence (been off of hydro for 2 weeks now, yay! - I don't need it for my back pain anymore and am working to get off of it, by using Subutex and lots of willpower!!) I am just sort of glad because I do not want to be totally medically dependent on OP's when/if the s*&t ever DOES hit the fan.... This will surely make a dent, but it will not end the business as a whole.
