Even though I'm sure it happened as you said, that is one of the most common lies told by drug-seekers to get more narcotics.

The dentist would have NO WAY of knowing IF you filled your script or not and if you found the old one after filling the new one, you could still fill the old one. The doctors can't call every pharmacy in your area to verify that you DIDN'T fill the one you said you lost.

I once lost my childrens' Adderall prescriptions, then found them a month later all trampled on by muddy/snowy feet stuck under the driver's seat in my car. I must have dropped them on my way into the house after the appointment. In any case, I never did call the doctor to say I'd lost the scripts for fear that he wouldn't believe me. And the pharmacy filled them over a month later muddy, crumply paper and all.

I also agree with some of the other posters that I would have torn the trash apart piece by piece to find that prescription.
