I reluctantly have to be a real doom and gloom type of person here, though. Most of the people in this country who can rub a few brain cells together realize that our War on Drugs is a total fraud and debacle. But it's not going away anytime soon. In fact, under Bush's Yale "Skull and Bones" fraternity brother Kerry, it will continue to escalate.

Why ?

Money.

It's way, way too huge of a rolling stone to stop. Far too big. Think of all the LEGAL industries involved in the scam...the Police, Corrections, and Probation departments...the drug testing facilities and suppliers...the booming prison building industry...the thousands of companies that "employ" people in these gulags for 40 cents an hour...the rest of the local, county, State, and Federal employees at all levels who feed off of this sham in the periphery like unseen ticks, who are as aware as you or I are about current, um, "outsourcing" trends in the private sector.

And then there are the tens of thousands of people on both sides of all of our borders who are also making tons of money because of these policies, in the smuggling department. Some of whom exert considerable political influence, here and elsewhere.

Perhaps this may be one reason Washington is getting hysterical about OPs and IOPs...post 9/11 border paranoia and shifting product distribution patterns via the Internet and private couriers...
