I just wanted to add a little about grapefruit that I found while researching opiate potentiators. CYP3A4, an enzyme produced in the liver, is inhibited by grapefruit juice and certain other substances. This enzyme is what your body uses to eliminate narcotics and benzodiazepines from the blood stream (among other things). In the case of benzodiazepines and pure mu-agonist narcotics like hydrocodone, oxycodone, morphine, etc. grapefruit juice should act to potentiate the drug by prolonging the effect and lowering the amount needed to be effective. In the case of benzodiazepines I have read accounts where the benzo is dangerously potentiated by depressing the CNS to the point of death, hence the warning label on prescription bottle.
Now, on the other side of the coin, is codeine and similar compounds (DHC). These are active because CYP3A4 is necessary for the body to convert codeine into morphine, which is an "active" compound in the bloodstream while codeine is not. So in this case, if you take codeine with grapefruit juice, very little codeine would be converted to morphine and hence the post above about taking T3's and grapefruit being a waste of meds.

Some people swear by taking milk thistle for that, especially to prevent liver damage from APAP, but I don't know how effective it is. Do a search on the boards for it to get some more info.
