Lemongrass,
Good work in advocating for yourself and great news that you can use your good doc as a PCP. The most shocking thing about this "former" doctor was that you were starting a new relationship with him as PCP. He needed to schedule a complete physical with blood work (this is according to most policies) and started a new set of medical records for you. How could he expect you to bring records when you weren't insured previously. Additionally, the PCP in your type of plan is the gatekeeper for all your healthcare needs.
You do provide an excellent learning experience (so sorry you had to go through that) for others about the role of the PCP and how important that is for all of your needs. If anyone doesn't see a familiar name, it's good to ask around for recommendations - friends, aquaintances, the pharmacist (they often have good insight from a physcicians prescription patterns). Referrals can make all the difference between what you got and your new/old doc.
I would suggest that you call back the Insurance Company, as they already have your complaint documented on computer, and request beginning with the new/old as PCP immediately. Companies can bend rules in that way. The first doctor you saw did not even schedule a physical or evaluation in addition to his rude behavior. Why should you have to pay extra when you never had a legitimate first appointment. You're a great advocate. Go for it!
