Tolerance to Soma and Vicodin

I just began taking generic Soma for a back condition. I'm also hoping to have a pain-killer prescribed in the next couple of weeks. Is there a tolerance that goes with Soma. In the past I could take Vicodin for a day or two--feel good, but after that, the drug seemed to lose its effectiveness. Any experience would be helpful. By the way, I used an OP for the Soma--no problem--and it works like a charm. I'm just worried I'll have to keep upping the dosage.
