I used to take tylenol 3 with no problems at all. Then it was like suddenly one day, I became allergic to it or something. I would take my usualy dose of 2 pills, and within 20 minutes would have the worst stomach pain, like cramps. It felt like a gallstone attack, except that I had had my gallbladder removed a year earlier. So for some reason, I had become intolerant to codeine, but hydro still works fine for me (with the exception of the occasional rebound headache - I hate those things!).
