This topic has been talked about a million times, and probably removed from the board just as often. Im just stating a fact and of course dont encourage drug abuse.
Grapfruit Juice/ not Ruby Red , or a coctail, the good old nasty stuff. Usually, anymore you can only find it warm, in a aluminum can for about 1.25
3 things happen when alprazolam is mixed with grapefruit juice.
1. The alprazolam reaches the blood stream faster.
2. Peak plasma levels of alprazolam are increased
3. The elimination time of alprazolam or the "half life" is increased.
This information was originally put out for caution with elderly people whom already have a lower tolerance for alprazolam(the older you get the less it takes to reach a desired effect), it was actually in some nursing home that perscribed alot of alprazolam and served alot of grapefruit juice that this interaction was discovered.
The mechanism by which these two interact is still unknown.
