The amount of Xanaz you are taking is a very large dose. Different benzodiazapines have different half-lives...Xanax having one of the shortest, and Klonopin having a pretty long one. I cannot condemn you for taking as much alprazolam as you do, but I speak from personal experience when I say that people actually get a real addiction and tolerance up at 2.5 or 3.5 milligrams a day, and withdrawing from that or even tapering is hell on Earth. Especially with Xanax, because it is so short acting. Try to taper down over a period of time...substituting a longer acting benzo for a portion of the Xanax...you will be amazed when a mere 1/2 or less of what you are taking works just as well, especially when you get to the point that you don't need it for days at a time. It just takes time, that's all. Excercise and vitamins help. And personally, of all the shorter acting medicines of this type, I find that lorazepam (Ativan) seems to be the most gentle. But then again, Valium makes me grumpy and pugnacious, so I rarely take it...everyone has their own reactions to these pills...
