My post wasn't meant to diagnose addiction, only to reassure the poster that they hadn't done anything wrong by withholding the information about OPs.
But I'm not offended at all. I agree with you, in fact. I've been on S2's for over a decade. I'd probably do things I never imagined if I were suddenly cut off. But it doesn't make it right or legal. Legal problems resulting in CRIMINAL activities are the result of the addiction. Whether pain-related or not, it is behavior that has to change for a person to live a productive life.
And please note, I do not sit on a pedestal here. I am painfully aware that the law doesn't help people who suffer.
