I've heard good and bad about Tramadol. I have a prescription for breakthrough pain and find that it works pretty well. The bad I've heard is that coming off of it is worse than hydro, so I keep it to a minimum, like once a day (50mg). if even that. I don't think I'd have a problem stopping it. It is supposed to work on the same receptors that opiates do but without the "high" (not my term, please understand) that can accompany opiates. My PCP says it's safe. Might be worth a try to see if it works for you.
